Our History
CityStep Princeton is a unique organization run entirely by undergraduates that introduces public school youth to the performing arts as an outlet for creative self-expression, a tool for building self-esteem, and a means to mutual understanding.
Originally founded at Harvard University in 1983, CityStep established a sister program at Princeton in 2013, joining UPenn and Harvard in the CityStep Ivy League consortium. CityStep Princeton continues to collaborate with CityStep Harvard and CityStep Penn through the CityStep Grad Board.
CityStep Princeton is funded by the Pace Center Student Volunteers Council (SVC) and generous donors to our program. CityStep Princeton gives Princeton University undergraduates the opportunity to become mentors for elementary and middle school children in the Trenton and Princeton communities.
We currently hold CityStep classes in 5th grade classrooms at the Grant School in Trenton and at Community House on Princeton's campus.
By providing weekly classes in dance and performing arts, we strive to foster a sense of community.
